The creative chain: This song, co-written with Alabaman, Jonathan Bloom, circa 1994, recounted the miraculous "recovery from cancer" story of Jonathan's young wife at the time, artist, Lila Graves. Jonathan picked me to be the producer and co-writer of his "Healing Power" album, which was released circa 1995. He flew out to L.A. to do that with me in a large studio space that housed my Pacific Songworks recording studio and my girlfriend Reiko's video/film facility, Intermix. Unforeseen circumstances had it that we had to write roughly 10 songs in a 2 week period. I like songwriting pressure so I took the task on. I remember Reiko, Jonathan and I walking in Venice Beach on a mysteriously grey and foggy day and talking about song titles. Reiko came up with the title "White Wings", which was brilliant, because we had been looking at stacks of Lila's Polaroid photographs of Mexicans sporting the white wings she had constructed. With that title Jonathan and I were off and running on that song. ...Cut to 2003, Malmö, Sweden, and I was now doing my version of this White Wings song at Amir Aly's YLA studio. What was amazing was that Lila Graves coincidently released an art book entitled WHITE WINGS in the same timeframe that I released my WHITE WINGS album. Here's the link to Lila's book:
