I originally co-wrote this track with an Alabaman, and wonderful singer, Jonathan Bloom, for an album I produced on him at my L.A. Pacific Songworks studio in 1994. When I tracked my version of the song in 1998, Jonathan was out visiting me from Alabama. It was recorded very fast. Bloom was encouraging that. A good call! Taras Prodaniuk, Billy Watts and David Raven played intensely and flawlessly. I believe, slowly but surely, that judging a man or woman by the colour of their skin, will become a thing of the past. Progress, despite set-backs, is happening…
lyrics
WAITIN' ON SELMA
(Strider/Bloom)
I made a trip to Selma, just the other day
Lord, ain't it funny how that place ain't never changed
Had to stop and ask directions, at the local pharmacy
Had to get into the middle of something' I didn't wanna see
White man pushin' past a black woman waiting' in line
She said nothin' 'cause she knows it's just a matter of time
She's Waitin' On Selma, she's Waitin' On Selma
With the whole world comin' around
Waitin' On Selma
Standin' patiently, burnin' up in front of me
She let the white man do his business
I wonder just how long, this can keep on goin' on
Thought this was settled back in the 60's
White man pushin' past a black woman waiting in line
No one says nothin', but you know it's just a matter of time
They're Waitin' On Selma, they're Waitin' On Selma
With the whole world comin' around
Waitin' On Selma
(Instrumental solo: electric guitar - Billy Watts)
Cruel wind there, keeps blown'
Hate breeds there, keeps on growin'
I can't stand this wrong way
This bad dream
Someone's gonna pay
While we're Waitin' On Selma, Waitin' On Selma
With the whole world comin' around
Waitin' On Selma
We're Waitin' On Selma
With the whole world comin' around___
Waitin' On Selma
With the whole world comin' around
Waitin' On Selma
With the whole world comin' around___
